The idea of vacation is to get away from everyday life, a break in routine. Staying at home is NOT getting away. Sure you don’t go to your place of employment but you are still connected to sixteen hours of your daily routine. You know like the laundry, the yard work, dusting and cleaning, that is NOT a break!
Now I realize there are people that financially cannot afford a trip to Disney or a Caribbean cruise but there are other options.
Remember that childhood friend you never have time to visit or what about grandma? And don’t forget there are always the local state and national parks, got a tent?
Always but always do your research first!! Contact the local visitor’s centers or chamber of commerce for discounts and coupons. Also explore Groupon, Living Social and other package promotions in the destination for deep discounts.
Research shows that people that vacation are healthier; they sleep better, have less stress and lower blood pressures and live longer. They are also more physically active, more creative and re-connect with family and spouses for improved relationships. Not to mention most trips are also an opportunity for a learning experience!
So before you decide to stay home (I don’t even want to mention that word) during your time off weigh your options carefully, can you afford not to go?
