The speaker hit on all of the usual issues, the difference between the male and female brain, factors that are harmful to the brain and the importance of exercise to stave off Alzheimer's disease. But the portion of the seminar that hit me most was her reference to "connect first, context second."
She said we don't remember things if we don't connect, memory is all about emotion. Years ago there was Wendy’s hamburger commercial where a little old lady continually said “Where's the beef?" Everyone thought she was funny in the commercial so we remembered the commercial.
The speaker said sure repetition helps but emotion is the key factor.
That really got me thinking (oh no that can be dangerous), the countries and trips that I remember the most are those that I feel I have made a connection with. Peru will always be special to me because of the journey to Machu Picchu and the spiritual connection I felt with the site.
