It is probably fair to say that many people feel that leisure travel is a major personal indulgence. You spend thousands of dollars for an experience that leaves you with nothing but some souvenirs, some photos of things and people you’ll have forgotten all about in a year or two’s time without the photos, and little else.
It is interesting however the lengths some people go to in order to justify their travel experiences and expenses, both to other people and to themselves.
However fear not, research is on your side! According to the USTA, US Travel Association, travel can almost halve your chance of a heart attack, promote happy marriages and do many other great things.
Another study showed women that only vacation once every six or more years were EIGHT times more likely to develop coronary artery disease or have a heart attack than women that vacation at least every two years.
Additionally, the Framingham Heart study showed that among 750 women, those who took no vacations were twice as likely to suffer a heart attack as those who traveled the most.
Travel is also linked to a lower risk of depression, a decrease in stress and an increase is creativity and production after the time off.
So don’t try to justify your trips, travel is not a personal indulgence it is for your heart’s health. Don’t wait until it’s too late…plan your vacation now. If you don’t plan yours you may be paying for your cardiologist’s trip!
