Shopping for the Traveler in Your Life

Black Friday is over and the beginning of the Christmas shopping season has officially begun. Each year it seems it becomes more difficult to shop for our friends and loved ones. So what do you intend to buy for the seasoned travelers on your list?

Most of us seasoned travelers have learned to travel very light and efficiently, most times with just a carry-on. Contrary to belief they(we) do not need every new fangled gadget on the market. Most seasoned travelers like items that are lightweight and multi functional.

A few inexpensive items that might be helpful for your seasoned traveler are gift cards that can be used at airports, particularly food and beverage gift cards. Also gift cards to bookstores and/or iTunes are excellent choices to add new material to the traveler’s tablet or ereader. However another option is digital subscriptions to magazines and newspapers for their reading device.

Small rip stop nylon tote bags that fold into small packages make ideal gifts. They can be used as a day bag or as a bag to bring home extra souvenirs. In spite of smart phones, camera media cards are often a good idea for those that travel with a “real” camera. And for those seasoned lady travelers a large pashmina or scarf is an excellent choice. It can be used as a scarf, as a blanket or even as a pillow on a plane. It can also be used as head covering for religious buildings.

And don't forget an assortment of those frequently needed replaceable items... Snack bars, handi-wipes, hand sanitizer, mints and gum.

Along those same lines are the collapsible water bottles. They literally take no space in a traveler’s bag and are extremely lightweight. Individual drink mix packets can also be added along with this gift idea.

Another unique and often overlooked idea is a short extension cord to add outlets at the airports or hotels. It seems there are never enough outlets for everyone to charge everything. Furthermore for those that maybe traveling a bit more remotely check out a solar charger for their electrical devices.

Now if you want to spend a little more than these inexpensive items there are always miles that can be bought from the airlines. Or a nice pair of noise canceling headphones is a plus.

When all of these options fail anything with a world map on it will bring out their wanderlust and have them on the road again soon.

So instead of another pair of all purpose socks, fleece or a passport cover think inside the carry-on instead of out of the box. Can the traveler in your life carry this easily? And do they really want to carry it?
