As travelers we often have to make arrangements for our four legged friends when we leave home, unless of course they travel with us. Road trip travel with our flurry friends isn't horrific if our pets have been brought up to travel. Many seem to look forward to the adventure; even cats are comfortable if they travel frequently. If the animal hasn't been brought up as a traveler it can be a tense and challenging situation for both owner and pet. In that case a sitter or pet retreat is best.
Now air travel is a whole other ball game. If the pet is small enough to travel in the cabin their airfare can sometimes be more costly than the owners fare. If the pet is large and needs to fly in the cargo hold, that is just plain scary! I personally do not think it is safe or wise to utilize that option unless it is a last resort. And if it is an international flight and unless it is for a long term stay the quarantine time really makes it totally ridiculous to consider flying with your pet.
We all love our four legged family members but sometimes it is just best to let them stay with grandma!
